The 4th of July in Crescent City is a blast.
My 5 kids, who have all moved from Crescent City to go to school, join the army, and whatever else, all come back each year for the festivities along with thousands (estimates of as many as 25,000) of others out of town visitors. It's definitely ONE BIG BASH!
It all starts on July 3rd with a Pre-Deck Party, Art Show and Sale at the Cultural Center to view artwork by local artists, which benefits the Crescent Harbor Gallery. For more information, please call 707-464-9133.
Next is the Annual Chamber Deck Party - A huge town party with live music, no-host bar, food, and friends! This year, the Deck Party will be held at the Downtown Plaza in Crescent City. Funds raised go to support the city's fireworks show on July 4th. This party is packed and is a "must attend" event. For more information, call 464-3174.
After you party at the deck party, move onto The Annual After Deck Dance is being held at the Del Norte Fairgrounds from 9 pm to 1 am. For more information call 707-487-5004. Try not to overdue the partying because there's more the next day.
The Redwood Coast Art Show is being held 7/3 and 7/4 at the Cultural Center. Call 707-464-9133 for more information.
What would the 4th of July be without a parade? The Annual Fourth of July Festival is a huge town celebration with a parade at 10am downtown; food, merchandise, and game booths at Beachfront Park following the parade and live music. One of the biggest fireworks show in the state starts after 9pm. Fireworks are shot over the beautiful Battery Point Lighthouse for an amazing display. Call Pilar at the Chamber for more information or to be apart of this Crescent City tradition. 707-464-3174.
The fireworks display is one of the largest in the state and is breathtaking to see. The beaches load up with people at dusk who are having picnics, barbecues, and blasting off their own (legal) fireworks. Del Norte County is one of the last bastions where you can still purchase and use legal fireworks in the state of California.
I have attended this parade and the accompanying festivities every year since we moved here in 1991 and we always have a great time. We see lots of people we know, enjoy the artwork, booths, food and parade. It is one of the things that makes Crescent City a very special place to live.
I know you will have a great time. Come check it out.
