The California Coastal Trail and Enderts Beach are the place to go when you are looking for a short walk but with big rewards.
You start the walk at the parking lot that is approximately 400 feet above ocean level. Make sure you bring someone along to carry your chair.
Be sure to read the informational signs that are posted along the trail.
There is a fresh water creek that flows into the ocean and plenty of room to spread out your blanket and sunbathe. As we drove to Enderts Beach, we passed Pebble Beach and South Beach. We saw ocean kayakers, boogie boarders, people flying kites, and of course surfers. The surfers come out in the dead of winter let alone a perfect day like this one. The weather was 73 degrees, but seemed much warmer due to humidity. It was definitely a day to HIT THE BEACH and everyone did.
Enderts Beach is fairly private because of the walk--about 1/2 mile. We passed about 5 people on the trail and shared the beach with a handful of sunbathers.
Enderts Beach is quiet and secluded and not too long of a walk. I don't exercise much and I was able to make the walk without any trouble.
Turn left onto Enderts Beach Road off of Highway 101 just as you enter Crescent City from the south.
There are picnic tables at the overlook just above the parking lot, where you will have a stunning view of the ocean while you eat your meal. The bathrooms are about 3/4 of the way down the trail to the beach. Camping is also available, but it is very limited. A section of the Coastal trail starts at Enderts Beach (it's a more comprehensive walk).
Enderts Beach is also home to Hidden Beach which can only be reached during low tide. There you will find tide pools with all sorts of goodies (look but do not touch or remove any wildlife).
The Enderts Beach area is a wonderful place to go for a day excursion. Check it out.

Those pictures are beautiful! I haven't been to CA since 1997 and though I love Hawaii....the CA coastline is just as ever enchanting.
Looks like you had a chair carrier as well as a nice "uncrowded" beach.

My name is Bill Endert. I found Endert's beach on the web and wonder if somehow our last names have something in common. There are a few Endert's In the Netherlands, one used to be in Indonesia, some in the U.S.A. and a few including myself and son in Canada on the West Coast.

I do not know if you are related to the Enderts that the beach is named after, but I can tell you that the Endert name has well established and deep roots in Crescent City. The historical society put out a book that gives a fairly comprehensive history of Del Norte County and the Enderts are prominent all the way back to our county's earliest days.

Here's a brief history of Northern California Enderts and Endert's Beach. The Enderts arrived to Crescent City back in 1871. Endert's Beach, purchased by the State of California I believe in the 1950s, is named after Frederick W. Endert (b.1880) of Crescent City who was the druggist/pharmacist (after 1903) in town and son of Joseph B. Endert, who, over time, had been sherrif (1890s), bank owner (1900), saloon owner and more. This was a time when many livelihoods were directly connected with the city's development. JB also built and operated the Endert Opera House, Bottling Works, and then, the Endert Theatre in Crescent City where the first "talkies" were heard. Later the theatre tried adding a roller skating rink which was a great success...lots of entertainment in the 1890s-1960s.
Endert's Beach in the 1930s to the late 1940s was the scene along the upper area on Highway 101 for its Auto Camp/Motor Lodge with several little cabins providing small comforts to northbound visitors. The entry sign above the gateway read: "For the Rest of Your Life, Endert's Beach." In the cove inset far below with the Nickel Creek running alongside, the view west opened wide to reveal the ocean. Here, a family homestead was built just for those years as a "home away from home" in the city and raised there for a time were Fred and wife Annette's 6 children and later 3 grandchildren, one of them, my Dad. There was a house and small farm complete with the animals and early morning chores before school. The inset trail just past the parking lot leading around the giant hillside and down to the cove was the old stagecoach road. My dad and uncles could hear the loud clammering of grandpa's old truck chugging down the old stagecoach road providing just enough time to clean up any major messes they had created while he was away. Many great childhood memories shared by my dad and uncles from Endert's Beach have enriched our lives over the decades.
Glad to know folks continue to find special times there in all of its glorious seclusion.
