Here's a fun quiz for REALTORS® to take as well as buyers and sellers: Buyer's Favorite Features. I took it and didn't do as well as I thought I would. First of all, our market is pretty non-traditional in several ways.
Our first difference is that YOU NEVER NEED AIR CONDITIONING in Crescent City. You would in two of our very small towns that have less than 100 people and have very little home turnover, but in the majority of Del Norte County, it isn't a consideration when making a home purchase. Our weather is mild.
Second, the entire county is rural. We have a little bit of city going on, but not too much. That is the strong appeal of Del Norte County and what is driving our market.
The L.A. basin and the Bay Area have become a little too crowded for a lot of folks. Driving an hour and a half one way to work just isn't getting it for a lot of my clients. I don't think there is anywhere in Del Norte County you could live that would give you more than a 30 minute commute and that's if you lived on the Oregon State line.
Even if you had to drive 45 miles, it wouldn't be in traffic and it would be on a lovely highway, travelling alongside the Smith River, one of the premier Steelhead and Salmon fishing rivers in California. You would be driving through old growth Redwood groves while relaxing to the cool tunes on your radio. That's a tad different than the gridlock in most California Counties.
There are other differences as well. Del Norte County does not have traffic, hence NO SMOG. You don't have to wait in line at the DMV, no kidding. In fact, you really don't have to wait in line anywhere. When you need to decompress you can walk on the beach and be virtually alone. Try that in Santa Cruz.
I hope you enjoyed the quiz. Give me a call for your home selling and purchasing needs in Del Norte County.
Thank you for stopping by. Your comments on this post are welcomed and appreciated.

Fran,
I didn't do half bad. Some correct answers were kind of surprising, though. Anyhow, Del Norte County sounds like the place to check out for the future. The weather, the nature, uncrowded everything must appeal to lots of people.
Jason and Missy - Notice I didn't put my score on in the post. When I said I didn't do so well, what I meant was I was abysmal.
Esko - Del Norte County is up and coming. We are the only California Coastal community with affordable housing and it's a great place to live.
Allen - That's a good point you made about our business being local.
Fran,
Only got 6 out of 10---that's why I'm in title insurance!!! Thanks, Other Fran
Lucky,
I didn't know you made that drive daily. It's a long but beautiful trip. I didn't so so well on the quiz either, but I think a lot of the answers really don't apply to our county.
